Yoga Gives Back

Yoga Gives Back is a charity dedicated to raising awareness and funds to alleviate poverty in India. Their work focuses on supporting struggling women and children in the very poor areas of India, offering micro financing programs. They do this by reaching out to the yoga community through charity public classes, events and contributions by yoga suppliers. Their slogan, 'For the cost of one yoga class, you can change a life' is resonating strongly through the yoga community throughout the world.

I am grateful and honored to represent them as one of their ambassadors. Their work is humbling and inspiring and i look forward to grow with them.

Kichanga Foundation

This is a small foundation set up in Zanzibar. I was fortunate to have met Nigel, the person behind the foundation and am so inspired by his work in the communities around him. You can find out more about the foundation on my blog here I am supporting this foundation through funds accumulated from the 50+ class as well as from workshops and classes run for this purpose. Updates can be found on my blog page or on their facebook page

Past Events

2011 Karma Yoga Week

Lou Kitchener and I worked together for a second year to raise funds for Yoga Gives Back and The Norwich Hamlet Center. This year, we ran a week long event starting with a public class that was taught by us together with Norwich teachers Kate Coulson, Abby Hoffman. This public class ran in conjunction with the Yoga Gives Back global event to raise funds to support their Sister Aid project in India. The Norwich event raised £330.

That week, Lou and I also hosted our first kirtan event at Studio One attended by about 20 voices. It was a free event that ended up raising over £100, which went into the Hamlet fund. The week ended with a 108 Sun Salutation challenge that raised £812.10 for the Hamlet Center in Norwich. You can read all about the events here

2010 Yoga Aid

This year, in 2010, I got involved with the Yoga Aid and became an ambassodor for them. Together with Lou Kitchener we put together our first Yoga Aid Challenge in Norwich and with just a small group of 20 participants, raised over £1500 for the Africa Yoga Project and the Prison Pheonix Trust. We look forward to hosting a larger event next year that will bring Norfolk's yoga community together for a fun, challenging, fundraising weekend! You can see pictures of the event on my gallery and a short blog about it on my blog.
