Yoga Styles

Traditionally, yoga classes are conducted on a one-to-one basis and a routine is created according to the needs of the student. However, in modern times this is not always readily available or practical. The brief description here is intended to provide a bit of understanding about the classes available. I hope one of the classes reaches out to you.

Often people ask if they have to be young and flexible to start yoga. I can tell you honestly that I am not a particularly flexible person and definitely do not posses a body that bends and folds into all sorts of positions. When I started yoga practice, it was full of frustration! I look back now and see the amazing transformation of my mind through this journey, to have arrived at a place where there is acceptance and enjoyment of the practice on all levels. I think it is through this understanding that i serve the classes. For me, it is about coming together to try something that you would never otherwise try and to play and be excited like children again!

Vinyasa Flow

Having said that, Vinyasa Flow Yoga is a strong practice and for this reason, classes are divided into different "levels" to accomodate different needs. Starting with the course is ideal if you have never done any yoga before. Class 1 is also a good starting point, especially for learning the vinyasa sun salutation. The general Vinyasa Flow classes are suitable for strong beginners or if you already have a yoga practice from a different school.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga grew out of the Krishnamacharya lineage. It is similar to Ashtanga but without a fixed sequence. The practice expands out of the sun salutation and flows from sequence to sequence, building into a peak. It is a practice that emphasizes on synchronizing breath with movement into a form of moving meditation

Sivananda Yoga

This yoga follows the teahcings of Swami Sivananda and is based upon five principles of proper exercise, proper breathing, relaxation, proper diet and positive thinking & meditation. The class begins with several rounds of sun salutations to warm up followed by twelve basic postures (with variations of the postures as the practitioner masters the basics). It employs a hollistic approach to yoga practice with plenty of relaxation between postures to allow the body to receive all the benefits from each asana. It is slower paced, but very challenging as poses are held for a long duration, to enable to muscles to slowly stretch out in a non harmful way.

50+ Yoga for Seniors

This class is based on the pawamuktasana series, a traditional hatha yoga practice that involves simple but dynamic, moving exercises. The series work on 3 parts, the first set of exercises is concerned with loosening up the joints, the second – to strengthen the digestive system and abdominal area, and the third – to improve the flow of energy.
Apart from the benefits of practicing yoga, this is also a warm, friendly and sociable class
